ACRE Earth Day Event and Summer Sports Stuff Exchange

This annual event will be held on Saturday, April 21 at the Chelsea Community Centre. The theme this year will be Post Carbon Transportation: Electric Cars and Bikes. There will be various electric bikes available to look at.

The Summer Sports Stuff Exchange will run from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. All sorts of used equipment will be for sale – bikes, soccer cleats, canoes, kayaks,etc..

If you are interested in selling items, you can drop off your gear between 8:30am and 10:00pm. There is a $5 registration fee and a commission of 10% goes to ACRE after the sale. You may pick up the money from any sales you made between 12:30pm and 1:30pm.

From 9:30 – 11:30, St. Mary’s Magdalene Church will be serving up freshly baked waffles, garnished with maple syrup and fruit. Between 11:30 and 12:30, they will be serving  chili and baguette.  There will also be a Bake Table and a Used Book Table.

Free bike tune-ups will also be available!

Chelsea Women’s Hockey – Sign up Today!

Some residents in Chelsea are trying to organize a Women’s Only Adult Pick-Up Hockey L eague and they need your help to make it happen. The games would take place at the new Meredith Centre and will run from May to August on Tuesday nights from 7:30-8:30. They need a minimum of 24 players and 2 goalies to sign up (ages 16-99) in order to be eligible to reserve ice time.

The cost will be $185 for 18 games and $100 for Goalies. They still need 18 more girls/women to sign up and the deadline is quickly approaching – January 31st. This is not limited to just Chelsea residents, so spread the word to anyone around. The goal behind this initiative is to provide girls and women with a non-competitive and fun learning environment for a variety of ages and skill levels.

Lace up your Skates – The Rideau Canal is Open

On January 15th, the NCC opened 2.2 km of the Rideau Canal Skateway.  As of  today, January 20th, the NCC has opened another 1.4 km to the public. The canal is now open for skating between the Corktowm Footbridge (Somerset Street) and the Bank Street Bridge. Skaters can use all entrances along the opened sections.

As soon as the weather permits and the ice conditions are safe, the NCC will open the remaining sections of the longest skateway in the world.

Chelsea Nordiq Ski Fair & Exchange – Saturday, Nov 5th

The Chelsea Nordiq Ski Fair and Ski Exchange will take place this Saturday, November 5th from 10:00am – 3:00pm at Chelsea Elementary School (74 Old Chelsea Rd). This is one of the largest preseason x-country events in this area.  It includes a ski exchange, snack bar, silent auction and  free seminars for the public, as well as information on the Canadian Ski Marathon and the Gatineau Loppet. This is also a great time to pick up your Gatineau Park Ski Passes at a low rate.

Intake for ski exchange items takes place on Friday, November 4 from 7PM to 9PM and Saturday, November 5 from 8AM to 9:30AM.

Capital Velo Fest – June 4th

Ottawa’s Bicycle Festival takes place this  Saturday, June 4th at Ottawa City Hall. The mission of this festival is to “inspire people of all ages to ride a bike more often”. Enjoy a day of free cycling entertainment (demonstrations, contests, educational seminars and workshops). There will be lots of exciting cycling activities for the whole family.

The Bicycle Rodeo is from 11 am – 4 pm.

The Tour la Nuit is from 7 pm – 11 pm.
