Screening of “Running the Sahara” on Feb 9th in Wakefield

If you haven’t seen “Running the Sahara” yet, this is your opportunity. There will be a screening of this incredible movie on Thursday, February 9th at Kaffe 1870, Wakefield.

This movie follows the adventures of 3 men, including Chelsea’s own Ray Zahab, as they set out to be the first to run across the Sahara desert while bringing awareness and raising money for the Ryan’s Well Foundation.

There will be a cash bar and free snacks available.
Admission is free but donations are strongly encouraged.
The movie starts at 7:30 pm.

Winterlude – Kicks off this Weekend

Here is a snapshot of the activities taking place during the first weekend of Winterlude:

1. Official Winterlude Opening Ceremony – takes place at the Museum of Civilization on Friday, February 3rd. There will be drummers, storytelling around cozy firepits, IMAX presentations ($), an amazing fireworks show and an outdoor DJ dance party.

Lots to see and do:

  • 5 pm – Free Admission to the Museum
  • 8:30 pm – Official Opening Ceremony
  • 9 pm -Musical Fireworks
  • 9:15 pm – DJ Dance Party

2. Rogers Crystal Garden in Confederation Park – plenty of chances to watch ice carvers from around the world create their masterpieces.

Lots to see and do:

  • International Ice Carving Competition
  • Visit an authentic Sami Lavvu from northern Norway
  • Meet artists from northern Canada and see them perform in the Rogers Crystal Globe
  • Groove to the tunes of the Sub-Zero Music Series
  • Experience the Yukon through the eyes of talented artists

Free Pancake Breakfast (while supplies last) at 10 am on Saturday, Feb 4th during the Eighth Annual Enbridge Pancake Breakfast at Ottawa City Hall, across from Confederation Park.

3. Snowflake Kingdom in Jacques-Cartier Park, Gatineau -North America’s biggest snow playground
